This is my sixth article in Blogging For Profits. As I have said before, there are many e-books dedicated to SEO (Search Engine Optimization). This article is going to address 3 specific rules of SEO marketing that should help the new or struggling blogger to get his or her blog ranked.
What is SEO? If you have been around the Internet very long, you probably have heard of SEO. Google is the "hundred pound gorilla" of the web. No doubt you have heard someone say that they were going to "Google it". When you type a word or phrase into Google, you are obviously looking for something, a place, directions, recipes, etc. Your blog site has a location on the web. When someone "Googles" the niche you are blogging about, Google will pull up all of the websites, blogs, articles, etc. on the Internet that pertain to the search. Where your blog site is located when someone searches for a "keyword" related to your niche is determined by a complex set of algorithms developed by Google. Determining how to move up in that process so that your blog is on the first or second page of that search is what SEO is all about.
Rule Number 1-Keywords: A lot has been written about the use of keywords. Keywords are the word or phrase that people use to search for various topics. For the scope of this article, I am going to discuss how to research key words and use them in your blog. Google has been so kind to give us an excellent FREE tool to look for keywords that you can use to promote your blog. Go to: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal. There you can put in relevant keywords describing your blog and find suitable other keywords to use in your blog.
Rule Number 2-Where To Put Your Keywords: Once you find some suitable keywords, you need to place them in the correct areas for the search engines to rank you blog. There are 3 critical places for you to place your keywords. First, the title of your blog posts (all of them) must contain your keywords or phrase. This is one of the most important places to have your key words. The second place for your keywords or phrases is in the opening paragraph. And finally, you need to use your keywords in the last paragraph of each of your blog posts. By using keywords in the right places in your blog posts, your will greatly increase the rank or position of your blog post on Google.
Rule Number 3-Use Google Webmaster Tools: To find this site, Google "Google webmaster tools". This site helps you to improve your blog sites visibility in Google search results. You can get Google's view of your site and diagnose any problems your blog might have. You can also discover your link and query your traffic results. Finally you can share information about your site with one click. The cool thing is that this service is FREE!
Using these simple techniques and they will help you to get your blog ranked higher in Google (and other search engines) for free. Be vigilant, and continue to work on your blog and soon you will be blogging your way to profits.
Good Luck!
